Understanding Custom Objects

The term “Custom Object” is used to describe an additional type of data record (a “line item”) that can be added to the system to supplement the out-of-the-box object types. These "line items" provide at-a-glance information about an agreement, typically things that are itemized.

Follow the steps below to add new Custom Object (Line Item) Types:

From the homepage, click to open the Application Settings, and then select from the Settings menu.

Next, select Custom from the Object Types drop-down.

Click at the top in the menu bar.

In the navigation menu, the custom object types you add will be listed in a sub-menu under a menu item named "Custom Objects". To use a different name, enter it in the Custom Object Menu Name field.

To add a new Object Type, scroll to the bottom of the list and click . On the blank line enter:

  • Name (singular form) The singular form will be used on buttons, e.g. "New Provider"

  • Plural Form The plural form is used in the navigation menu and for the section header labels, e.g. "Providers"

  • Use the drop-down menu in the Behavior column and choose either Standard, Free Form, or Asset. Selecting Asset or Free Form creates a "free form" custom object in which there are no predefined records - users add blank rows and enter information directly in the parent record. If you require predefined line items/records (such as Providers, Services, Products, etc.) select the default, which is Standard. NOTE: This selection cannot be changed after you save the new custom object type.

Optional: Use the and buttons to re-order the rows, which changes the order in which custom objects appear in the Navigation menu under "Custom Objects". NOTE: Free Form custom objects do not appear in the Custom Objects list of the left-side Records menu on the Homepage.

Click .

TIP: Since new custom object types have a default permission level of No Access, users (except for the Tenant Owner) will not see new types in the system unless they are enabled in their role permissions. For more information, click the Role Permissions link to the Knowledge Base topic.
