Understanding Custom Objects

The term "custom object" is used to describe an additional type of data record (a "line item") that can be added to the system to supplement the out-of-the-box Object Types. These "line items" provide at-a-glance information about an agreement, typically things that are itemized.

When creating a Custom Field for a record layout, Picklist and Multi-Select Picklist can provide a dropdown selection of standard Custom Objects for users.

To use Custom Objects in a Custom Field, follow these steps:

  • When in a record layout, click .

  • In the Field Settings: New Field pop-up window, enter a name in the Label field.

  • Using the Control Type drop-down menu, select either Picklist or Multi-Select Picklist.

  • From the Object Type drop-down, select Custom Objects.

  • Next, use the Custom Object Type drop-down to select from a list of Standard Custom Objects. NOTE: At least one Standard Custom Object must be created prior to building this Field.

  • Click to save the new Custom Field.

  • Add the new field to the record layout from the Fields section on the right, then click to save the Layout changes.
