How to Archive a Field
From a record layout, click the cog icon to open Field Settings for the field.

How to restore an archived field
On the record layout, locate the checkbox in the Fields list menu on the right-side and check the checkbox to display a list of archived fields.
Locate the archived field and click the cog icon to open Field Settings for the field.

The following message is displayed: “Restoring this field will make its data available again in all objects where it was previously saved, but the field will not be added to any layouts, you must do that manually. If you do not want old data to be restored, create a new field instead of restoring this one. Are you sure you want to restore this field and its data?”
