Dependency is a relationship between fields such that the lookup values available in one field are dependent on which lookup value has been selected in another field.

Define the General Properties of both fields. NOTE: Both the dependent field and the field upon which the field is dependent (parent) must be lookups.

  1. In Type Manger, locate the Object and Record type of the fields to be configured.

  2. Locate and click the gear icon of the dependent field, and then click the Dependency tab.

  3. Toggle Dependent Field to the ON position.

  4. In the Available values are based on drop-down, select the lookup upon which this field is dependent (parent value). The values in the selected lookup populate the Parent Values grid column.

For each row in the grid (each parent value) select one or more values from the dependent field’s lookup, as seen below. Hold down the CTRL key to select multiple values. The values you select populate the grid in the Available Values column.

In the example above, when Contract Submitter is selected for the Business Unit(s), then Only Corporate and North (2 of 5) are available as Association Type(s), whereas if Attorney is chosen, then all Association Type(s) values (5 of 5) are selectable.
